Thank you Lynnhurst Environmental Committee (LEC) members, family, and neighbors who helped with the Buckthorn Bust along Minnehaha Creek on November 5. Special thanks to Scout Troops 3089 and 3046 for their awesome work.
The buckthorn piled along Minnehaha Parkway was an impressive 150+ feet long.
Buckthorn is bad because:
- It out competes native plants for nutrients, sunlight, and moisture choking out surrounding trees and plants and making it nearly impossible for new growth to take root under its canopy of dense vegetation.
- It degrades wildlife habitat and alters the natural food chain and growth of an otherwise healthy forest.
