Nico’s Tacos Open in Lynnhurst

While residents of Lynnhurst may have been sad that Tinto Kitchen closed at 50th and Penn, the sadness didn’t last long since Nico’s Tacos opened in the spot, joining its other locations in Uptown and St. Paul/Como Ave.

Nico’s Tacos owners Alejandro and Jenna Victoria got to know Rebecca, the owner of Tinto, when her restaurant was in Uptown and she would visit the Victoria’s first business, the Italian restaurant Amore Victoria. Both families say they feel very lucky that Nico’s Tacos could take over the space when Tinto closed.

Since opening Nico’s Tacos in Uptown 10 years ago, Alejandro has loved sharing his heritage with his guests. The Lynnhurst location has a bigger menu than Uptown, focusing on tacos and heritage dishes inspired by Mexican Street food Alejandro learned to love as a child when spending his summers in Mexico.

The Victorias live in Southwest Minneapolis, where their children attend school, so having a restaurant in the neighborhood has been a goal. The Lynnhurst location has another advantage: The bakery space is used to make their unique corn nixtamal tortillas more efficiently. The restaurant also features an agave bar.

Nico’s has indoor and outdoor seating, and is open from 11am-9pm Sunday- Thursday, and 11am-10am Friday and Saturday at 4959 Penn Ave S.

Nico’s Tacos’ new signage was funded in part by Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association’s façade grant program. For businesses looking to do qualifying facade work (new sign, painting, awnings) through a grant, the Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association can reimburse them up to one third of the costs up to $5000. If you own a business or know of one that could benefit from a façade grant contact info@lynnhurst.org.
